Our Story

Mitzi Dulan - Registered Dietitian and Nutritionist

Hi, I’m Mitzi Dulan. Every story has a beginning, and mine is quite simple really. I love nutrition (BTW…I’ve been a registered dietitian for 20 years) and I have a passion for great tasting food. Yes. I’m a foodie. I am also a protein fan since it satisfies my own hunger and helps my clients who range from superstar World Champion athletes to Hall-of-Famers and moms who want to eat clean and fuel their families with simple, real food ingredients.

As America’s Nutrition Expert ®, I’m an award-winning, internationally recognized registered dietitian, nutritional spokesperson, and author. I was the World Championship Winning Sports Nutritionist for the 2015 Kansas City Royals and served as their team nutritionist for 11 years. I was the team sports nutritionist for the Kansas City Chiefs Football Team for over eight seasons and I was the team sports nutritionist for The Golden State Warriors Basketball Team when I lived in San Francisco. I am the author of The Pinterest Diet: How to Pin Your Way Thin and co-author of The All-Pro Diet: Lose Fat, Build Muscle, and Live Like a Champion with NFL future Haler Tony Gonzalez. This was the first and only book to ever be written by an NFL professional football player and his nutritionist. I admit, I still pinch myself sometimes. Grateful for the amazing professional sports organizations and professional athletes who I've had the honor of helping over the years. I knew sushi would be a hit with NFL football players. We ran out the first 2 weeks! I knew players would love quinoa and watermelon juice. I also knew they would LOVE my protein balls!

Protein Balls for Champions
Recipe for Success

Starting with a recipe I developed that went viral with the help of my 3.5 million followers on Pinterest, I decided to make my popular protein balls for the Kansas City Royals towards the end of the regular season late September 2015. The players LOVED and, well, two days later, the Royals clinched the American League Division for the first time in 30 years!

A local news reporter saw me leaving the clubhouse after midnight with my empty plastic container and champagne drenched hair so he had to ask. I told him the story and then the local media went crazy about my protein ball story and I did tv interviews for for ABC, NBC, CBS and FOX. During playoff games, I sat behind folks who said they heard about my protein balls. The local sports radio stations were talking about my protein balls...our elevator guy told me. It was pure protein ball craziness as the City had not been so excited about a Kansas City sports team in over three decades.

In baseball, we are superstitious so I kept making the same protein ball recipe for the players throughout the playoffs and World Series and we ended up becoming WORLD CHAMPIONS for the first time in 30 years! Yay!

I still have days that I can hardly believe it! Holy cow! Growing up a tomboy and lifelong fan of The Kansas City Royals and then winning the 2015 MLB World Series Championship! I feel truly privileged and honored to have played a role in their success as the team sports nutritionist- no matter how small.

Then, the emails, calls, and requests didn't stop. I had so many folks all over Kansas City asking me to make my protein balls for them or their kiddos. One of the most enjoyable parts about making my protein balls is that so many people LOVE them! I get to feel like I'm giving them protein ball love that is tasty and satisfying.

I’ve heard from moms who have kids who are hiding my protein balls from each other as everybody in the fam loves. Literally, households are fighting over who gets the balls! World champs, super-moms or mini-warriors all have one thing in common…they love the satisfying taste of my protein balls and moms feel good feeding clean, simple ingredients to their families. I’ve even had moms tell me their kids wanted to try my protein balls after seeing them on Snapchat.:)

Perseverance Pays Off

From financing my own college education to becoming one of the country’s most notable names in nutrition and fitness, I’ve always believed that working harder than others is a key to success. Plain and simple. Hard work pays off.

A little about my background. I earned dual B.S. degrees in Nutrition and Exercise Science from Kansas State University. Rare to find in the industry 20 years ago, the combined specializations have served me well. As a result of my collegiate experience - interning at the NBC Health & Fitness Center in NYC, serving as the first-ever sports nutrition intern at the highly competitive Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, and completing a yearlong dietetic internship at one of the top programs in the country at The University of California San Francisco (UCSF) Medical Center and graduating cum laude in both degree programs. I was awarded the Recognized Young Dietitian of the Year by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and won Kansas State University’s Entrepreneur of the Year award. I was also the youngest former graduate ever inducted into the Topeka West High School Hall-of-Fame, recently.

My innovative use of social media platforms has led me to be named one of The Huffington Post’s Top 20 Nutrition Experts to Follow on Twitter, the #5 online influencer helping Americans Eat Better by ShareCare.com, and to cultivate a community of over 3.5 million followers on Pinterest (which makes me the #1 nutritionist on Pinterest).

I have been fortunate to be a sought-after media source for trusted nutrition and fitness information for nearly 20 years and I've been a featured guest on CNN, The Dr. Oz Show, Live! With Kelly & Michael, and FOX News Channel, among others. I've been quoted in The Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, Family Circle, US Weekly, Oprah.com, ESPN.com, and FoodNetwork.com.
